The Australian Greens are proposing the legalisation and regulation of nicotine e-cigarettes

A spokeswoman for the Australian health Department, Cate Faehrmann, a Greens lawmaker, has proposed a plan that would legalize the use of nicotine e-cigarettes for adults in Australia. The plan aims to reduce the availability of e-cigarettes by young people on the black market and to propose solutions to the harmful effects of vaping devices.

The proposal Outlines strategies to effectively reduce the negative impact of e-cigarette consumption. The Greens’ rules would include monitoring and reducing nicotine levels in e-cigarettes.

The Greens have also proposed requiring health warnings to be placed on all vape products, similar to those currently on cigarettes, and a recycling system to minimise waste caused by illegal e-cigarettes.

”Our plan would regulate nicotine e-cigarettes like other tobacco products, with strict limits on advertising and nicotine content,” Fineman said.

On the waste crisis, Fellman said the Greens would “hold manufacturers responsible for the scrapping of these products and require retailers to operate ‘vcigarette waste’ bins.”
