According to the Associated Press, at present, due to a large number of unauthorized disposable electronic cigarettes entering the US market, the types of electronic cigarettes sold in the United States have greatly increased to more than 9,000.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) claims it rejects about 99 percent of e-cigarette marketing applications and approves only a handful of e-cigarettes aimed at adult smokers. This shows that despite the FDA’s desire to tightly control the e-cigarette market, it has had little effect. Most disposable e-cigarettes contain sweet and fruity flavors, making them a popular product among teens.
Analysis data shows that in 2022, cheap disposable e-cigarettes will account for 40% of the U.S. e-cigarette retail market, with a market size of about $7 billion. There are currently more than 5,800 disposable e-cigarette products with unique flavors on the market, an increase of more than ten times compared to 365 at the beginning of 2020.
Under pressure from politicians, parents and major vaping companies, the FDA recently issued warning letters to more than 200 stores selling disposable vaping products, banning the sale of violating vaping products. Brian King, director of the FDA Tobacco Center, said the FDA is unwavering in its determination to crack down on illegal e-cigarettes.
